Oct. 27th, 2017 07:16 pmFor anyone who might roleplay with me, write things for me, or who wants to rec me things to watch/read/play, here is a list of the things that are likely to make me very very happy in fiction. This is in no way to say I don't like anything else, but these are the big pings.
Settings
-Sci-fi
-Horror
-Dystopias
-Wars
-Large-scale conflicts in which all sides manage to be sympathetic
-Tokusatsu (by which I mean probably all of the above wrapped in the guise of a feel-good kid's show, because yes, that is my jam)
Situations
-Hurt/Comfort, moreso emotional than physical, bonus points for characters getting triggered to hell, may or may not involve someone having nightmares
-Physical closeness, with or without romantic/sexual overtones, give me all your body heat memes
-Sparring, especially in place of a difficult conversation
-Fighting together against some outside force, both actively or as a backdrop
-Mindfuckery (control, memory loss, stupid love potions, there are a wide range of options) and getting someone to remember who they are, or dealing with them until they do
-Things going wrong in hilariously ridiculous ways
-Character who doesn't look like they care subtly proving they care
-Characters being in denial (about a situation, or about their own feelings)
-Friends being friends
Relationships (General)
-Comrades in arms, that person who's as skilled as you are and always has your back
-The person who struggles with themself and the person who reminds them who they want to be
-Misfits finding each other
-Found families
-Telepathic/psychic bonds
-Right hands
-Enemies who think too much alike and hate how much they understand each other
-Enemies who would get along if not for one fundamentally irreparable difference of opinion
Shipping (though several apply to characters as friends, too)
-Subtle romance, characters being in love with each other before they realise they are
-Enemies to lovers, enemies to friends to lovers, friends to enemies to lovers, you get the point
-Threesomes, moresomes, where everyone understands and cares about each other whether they're all romantic or not
-Deep, deep trust, especially when one or more characters has problems trusting in general
-Perceptiveness and intense understanding, where character pick up on stuff their partner/interest isn't saying (often because at least one person is actually terrible at saying things, so this can involve both characters being bad at communicating but being similar enough in that way that they understand each other anyway, or one person being good enough at it for the both of them, or maybe ideally one of each of those)
-Nonverbal communication, actions speak louder than words
-Unconditional love
-Unshakable bonds that last to hell and back
-Lesbians, because the world needs more good female characters and more good f/f relationships
Sex
-Seriously not that important to me but:
-Emotional, emotional, did I say emotional
-Either romantic or fulfilling some other kind of psychological/emotional need
-Sex as a hurt/comfort trope
-Awkward situations (first times or otherwise)
-Navigating consent
-Dealing with cultural and/or physical differences (who's got aliens?)
